From the notes of John Tiffney
YE OLDE BELL ALEHOUSE, Querns Lane
Across the road from the Hope Inn, where Anton Piller’s premises are now, was the site, until 1839, of “Ye
OLDE BELL ALEHOUSE”. It is shown on an 1827 map at the start of the Cirencester to Wotton Bassett
Turnpike. It was demolished when the Great Western Railway came to the town and the Station master’s
house was built on the site.
