The Wellington Arms was owned by Smith & Sons. The 1897 Kellys Directory (under the commercial section for Stroud) lists James Beck as a ‘Butcher and Beer Retailer’ at 25 Nelson Street, (a few doors away from the Duke of York). Unfortunately there is no mention of the name of the premises. James Beck died in June 1911 aged 61.
