Gloucester Journal, 15th August 1863:
Edwin Wynn: I am a general dealer living at Stroud and keep the Nag’s Head Inn. On the evening of the 7th of July Pearce came to the bar and asked if I wanted to buy any cloth as there was a man outside who had some to sell and the price was 2s. a yard. Rogers then came in. He had bundle of cloth. He asked 4s. a yard for It, and Pearce said it was seven and a half yards long. I bought the cloth in the presence of both prisoners. Pearce asked Rogers to lend him a shilling. Rogers went out. I afterwards gave the cloth to P.C. Morgan. On the following morning, I saw Rogers and Pearce. Pearce asked me if I had sold the cloth, as he would give me sovereign for it.
