The Citizen, 5th November 2016 – ‘Angie will be here when we open her dream bar’: Seven weeks ago Fred and Angie Fisher decided to persue a lifelong dream of owning their own pub. but tragically Angie did not live to see their ambition fulfilled. Three weeks before they were due to open the doors of Gloucester’s tiniest hostelry she collapsed and died. She was 59. Many people in Fred’s position, grieving the loss of a loved partner, may have felt unable to continue with a demanding project but he was determined to go ahead. Now Angie’s bar has opened its doors – with a specially commisioned picture of her over the door.
The pub in Bull Lane, off Westgate Street, is being run by Fred and business partner Simon Cripps along with Simon’s partner Ashley Mullinger. Angie’s started off as an unused building that “was in desperate need of TLC”, said Fred. “It may be assumed the name was chosen in memory of Angie, a musician who played in a band called A27en. But actually it was chosen quite early before she passed away.” Simon said: “Early on, Angie joked that she hoped we wouldn’t argue over what the pub should be called. A few days later I was thinking about it and felt Angie would be a strong brand name.”
Gloucester Citizen, Thursday 15th June 2023 – Drunken Duck ready to land in city centre: The Gloucester pub scene is set to get a new venue next month. The Drunken Duck is planning to open in the city centre on 1st July. The new pub, in Bull Lane, off Westgate Street, will focus on real and craft ale with weekly live music. It’s a small venue and is currently known as Angie’s Bar. Ryan Foster is behind the The Drunken Duck. He said he wants to bring a small, traditional pub to the city. He said: “I’ve loved traditional pubs since working in The Pelican Inn. I’m hoping to bring live music and the best quality ale to Gloucester.”
