An excerpt from a rick-burning case at Yate: –
John Cryer—I keep the Colliers’ Arms beer house at Yate; the prisoner came to my house on the 9th of Dec. at eight o’clock. I employed him until dinner time; I gave him his dinner and 3d; I left after dinner, having cut him a grubbing axe to grub up a bank for farmer Drew.
