Cricketers Arms, Sandford Terrace, Keynsham Road, Cheltenham

The Cricketers Arms seems to have 2 listings, one under Sandford Terrace and the other 16 Sandford Terrace with a photo and a note from Martin that James Stroud was landlord in 1843, while you have him listed as 1844 in the other listing. Though he was probably both.

 

I did find a J. Stroud in the 1848 Edwards Directory list of “Beer Retailers” with “Sandford terrace” as the address, also in the 1847 Hunt & Co. but in that one it has the full name “Stroud, Joseph, Sandford terrace.”  

 

I couldn’t find anything after this. Perhaps it was short-lived. I did find in www.Rawes.co.uk/sandford/sandfor.htm info to the effect that Sandford Terrace was built in at least two stages. By 1841-2 two thirds had already been built and by 1841-7 are occupied. The terrace now consists of 16 houses. One of the houses, probably ‘Broxted House’ on the corner was once a pub called the Cricketers Arms.”
