Gloucestershire Journal, 7th April 1855:
Richard Abrahams, aged 18, tiler, was charged with wounding Mark Vowles, with intent to do him some grievous bodily harm, at the Turk’s Head public-house, Bedminster, on Nov. 25.
Mr Skinner prosecuted.
The prisoner and the prosecutor had been in the habit of playing at dominoes together, when they quarrelled; two or three weeks after this, when the prosecutor had imagined the quarrel had been forgotten, the prisoner entered the room and struck him on the head with an edge tool. He was taken to the Bristol Infirmary and was so severely injured that he remained there for some weeks. The prisoner was convicted and sentenced to seven years’ penal servitude.
