Gloucestershire Chronicle, 12th August 1848:
Eliza Hyett, 28, was indicted for stealing at Cheltenham, on the 14th of July last, from the person of Chas Coomb, a purse, two half-sovereigns, three half-crowns, seven shillings and two sixpences, his property. The offence was committed at a public-house in Cheltenham, known as the “Paul Pry” where the prisoner met, and was drinking with the prosecutor. After she left he missed the purse and money. He gave information to the police, who found the purse and money by her side the same night. She then denied she ever saw the prosecutor, but afterwards said he gave her the money. The jury found her guilty, and a previous conviction having been proved against her, she was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment.
