“William Newcombe, Beer Retailer”, gets an entry in Moore’s 1847 Almanac. It may have been in the row of six cottages opposite the Marlborough Arms,that were pulled down in 1973 to widen Sheep Street and to provide spaces for the Old Town Station car park.
