From the notes of John Tiffney.

FOX INN

The Fox Inn was next door to the Wheatsheaf. Originally called The Salutation in trade directories for 1820 and 1830 (and possibly the Angel before that).  It became The Fox by 1875 when it was renamed to avoid confusion with the Salutation in Stratton, which was near the Salutation tollhouse on the Cirencester to Cheltenham Turnpike. The Fox had closed by 1887 when the spirit licence was transferred to the Railway Inn in Sheep Street.
