Gloucestershire CAMRA – The Tippler: No.17. May 1979 – Pub News: The main news of the month has been the opening on 12th April of a new Courage pub in Cheltenham called the Haymaker. Situated on the Wyman’s Brook estate in Windyridge the pub serves a large area of new housing which has previously been completely dry. The Haymaker is serving Courage Directors, Best Bitter and Ordinary Bitter all on handpumps, and first indications are that an excellent pint will be available. In fact the brewery have already awarded their Ale House title to the pub indicating a higher than average standard of real ale pub. On the same day the Royal Foresters in Townsend Street, which until now has been the only Courage pub in Cheltenham, celebrated the opening of its new lounge bar where Directors Bitter and Best Bitter are available on handpump.
The pub is now called the Ridge.
