Gloucester Journal: May 2nd, 1874: The Gloucester Club in Westgate Street was opened yesterday. It has bars, billiard rooms and a garden.

The Gloucester Club was a meeting and drinking place for businessmen. It is known that the club had waiters. A William Ghent was a drink waiter at the club in around 1895.

When the premises were being renovated and converted to the offices of a building society in February 1979 an old map dating from 1898 was discovered under the floorboards. It was a road map, in quite poor condition, produced by the Gloucester City & County Cycle Co. of Westgate Street.
