Gloucestershire Live, 26th October 2023 – Revamp on cards for village pub: A village pub is set to be restored after being acquired by one of its locals. The Crown Inn in Cerney Wick has been snapped up for an undisclosed sum by an unnamed buyer living in the village. The six-bedroom property comprises a lounge bar, formal dining area and a small tap room suitable for private parties, with a total capacity of up to 84. There is also a large outdoor patio that can seat up to 50.

Planning permission for the construction of two four-bed detached dwellings on the site was granted in 2020, providing an opportunity to boost the inn’s capacity.

The Crown Inn was purchased by the Cirencester Brewery in 1928 and was later associated with the Courage Brewery, but it now stands free of a tie. Catering firm Relish took over the running of the food and beverage service at The Crown in October 2021.

Nicholas Calfe, hospitality director at Christie & Co who handed the sale, said: “The location of The Crown Inn on the edge of the affluent Cotswold Water Park was a big draw, attracting interest far and wide, especially among local buyers who were aware of the potential it offers and the opportunity to develop land to the rear. Christie & Co received multiple offers for best and final offers, eventually selling to a cash buyer who exchanged and completed the transaction within six weeks at an undisclosed sum.”
