Brewhouse & Kitchen opened on Monday 23rd May 2016. The innovative pub chain brought small scale brewing back to the site of the old Flowers Brewery site which had closed 19 years previously. The official opening was presided over by local celebrity and former Olympic ski jumper Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards. Although Eddie was photographed with a pint of porter – named Landed Eagle II in his honour – but he didn’t drink a drop of it as he is a teetotaller. Eddie said: “The bar is awesome and I’m sure Landed Eagle II will be as iconic a pint as my Winter Olympic story is.”
Less than a year after it opened the Cheltenham branch of Brewhouse & Kitchen in the Brewery Quarter made the shortlist for the National Pub and Bar Awards 2017.
The Brewhouse & Kitchen website explains their philosophy and raison d’etre: ‘We’re a bit different from your traditional pub – we brew our own, unique craft beers on-site in our brew-tiful microbrewery! As well as matching every dish on our menu to a style of beer we also love cooking with beer –so be sure to keep an eye out for recipes that make use of the beers we brew!’
