In 1870 William Apperley is listed as being at the Stonehouse Ale Stores, Back Street, Cheltenham. This is the Caledonian Inn, Swindon Road. The owner of the Wickwar Brewery in 1891, Ruth Meek, also owned the Noahs Ark in St. Georges Street which was also brewing its own beer.
I have not yet found where the brewhouse was or, indeed, why it was called the Wickwar Brewery. It is possible that the Arnold Perrett brewery at Wickwar may have acquired the concern and registered it in their name, but this is only speculation. The licensing records of 1891 categorise the Wickwar Brewery as a ‘brew house’.
The annual rateable value was set at £21.5s.0d. in 1903. There is no reference to the Wickwar Brewery in the subsequent petty sessional divisional licensing records of 1903.
