Gloucester Citizen, Saturday 3rd October 1885 – “Gone on Drink”: John McGuire was charged with stealing a coat, the property of Nathaniel Hogg. Mrs Hogg, of Whiteshill, stated that on Monday evening she hung a coat belonging to her husband in the passage. A neighbour’s daughter told her a tramp had been in her house, and she sent a man after the prisoner, who was brought back with the coat on him. P.C. Chappell proved apprehending the prisoner with the coat in his possession.
Prisoner was further charged with stealing a comb, the property of Eliza Hogg, Woodcutters Arms, Whiteshill. Henry Hogg, said the prisoner came into the house on Monday and stayed for about an hour and a half. When he had gone witness missed the comb from the window. P.C. Chappell found the article on the prisoner at the Police Station. Prisoner said he was “gone on drink”, and he didn’t know what he was doing. Prisoner was committed for trail.
Gloucestershire Echo, Thursday 28th February 1907: Stroud: Thursday – before Mr Alfred Apperley. Alfred Davis, Edward Dowdeswell, and Frank Wright, labourers, of Harescombe, were charged with stealing a pair of boots and a spittoon, the property of Sidney Gibbons, licensee of the Woodcutters Arms, Whiteshill, on February 25th. P.C. James Williams, officer in charge of the Whiteshill police, briefly states the facts, and prisoners were remanded on bail until Friday.

Gloucester Citizen, 28th August 1985 – Regulars aid the old folk: A wheelchair has been presented to elderly Stroud people by customers at a local pub. The £170 wheelchair for infirm residents at a district council group housing scheme at Paganhill, was officially handed over to council representative Mr Dick Kettle. It was bought by regulars at the Woodcutters Arms at Whiteshill, who ran a raffle to raise the money. They also topped up their charity fund with a Bank Holiday family barbeque, with greasy pole contests and a Punch and Judy show for entertainment. Mr John Birtwell, chairman of the Woodcutters charity fund, said his members would meet later to decide the next local charity to benefit from cash still in their fund. Secretary Tony Williams presented the chair.

Gloucester Citizen: Wednesday 17th December 1986 – Pub’s Present Aids Charities: Customers at a Stroud pub have presented Christmas charity cheques to five local organisations. Regulars at the Woodcutters Arms in Whiteshill, who collected the money at fund-raising events during the past year, handed the cash to representatives of the good causes at a special meeting. Altogether £350 was shared between the Ruscombe Over 60’s Club, the Whiteshill Gold and Silver Club, the Paganhill Autumn Leaves, Ruscombe United Reform Church and St. Paul’s church, Whiteshill. Mrs Jean Dorsett represented the Woodcutters charity committee and made the presentation.
Gloucester Citizen, Thursday 17th December 1987 – Charity boosts: Fundraisers at the Woodcutters Arms in Whiteshill have presented £900 to eleven local charities. At a special presentation evening at the pub, charity fund chairman Mr Ian Baxter gave cheques £100 an £50 to a variety of local groups. Special thanks were given to all who supported the fund and to the landlord and landlady Pete and Marlene Mooney.
The Citizen, 9th December 1998 – Woodcutters Arms: The friends and regulars of the Woodcutters Arms in Whiteshill have been collecting for charity since 1985. Over the years £22,000 has been collected and distributed to local charities. This year has been no exception and at a ceremony held at the Woodcutters on Thursday 12th November, cheques totalling £1,800 were presented by the chairman, Dot Hulme and treasurer, Edgar Corkhill. The landlord and landlady, Pete and Sheila, who provided food for the occasion, were also thanked for their support.
The Woodcutters Arms, in the upper part of Whiteshill, called ‘last orders’ for the final time in the Spring of 2007. In November 2008 an application was submitted to turn the Woodcutters Arms into residential use.
