In his list of licensed premises that were trading in Cheltenham in the year 1844 in early Victorian times, Martin Edwards has identified a beer house called the White Lion which he states was at 411 High Street ‘in the Strand area’.

This equates to the present day 86 High Street which, on a Google Maps search, is occupied by a mobile phone shop called Phones Matter.

The White Lion is not included in the 1891 licensing records.
