Fellow pub historian Martin Edwards has compiled a list of pubs in Cheltenham in the year 1844 – in the early years of the reign of Queen Victoria. He has documented a beer house at 34 King Street called the Vine Tree.

King Street runs between the Lower High Street and Swindon Road and, according to the layout of the present day street numbering, 34 King Street was at the High Street end, just to the rear of the Lower George Inn.

The Vine Tree could be approximately in the location of the brick built building facing Kings Mews.
