The Upper Parting is mentioned in the 1856 directory. The River Severn divides into two channels to the north-west of Gloucester. It is believed that the Upper Parting Inn was located where the two channels diverge. The site was occupied by Cleansing Services Group (CSG) whose plant spectacularly exploded in October 2000 sending a lethal cocktail of chemicals into the air.
