The Three Cocks was situated in the hamlet of Charlton, just to the west of Tetbury on the present day A4135. Charlton is in the rural parish of Tetbury Upton and, as a result, ‘last orders’ were called in the Three Cocks at 10 p.m. On many occasions there must have been an orderly procession up the hill into the pubs of Tetbury in order to take advantage of the later closing time. The Three Cocks had a delightful and mischievous nickname –  ‘Ladies Delight’.

John Cook posted this interesting account of the Three Cocks in the “Old Tetbury” Facebook group;

“The pub had some very flexible closing time which was often the topic of discussion between my Mum and Dad. The pub was part of my childhood. My parents sometimes took my two brothers, Will and Mike and myself to Minchinhampton Common, or perhaps Cherrington Lake, and on the way home call into the Three Cocks. Whilst Mum and Dad sat in the pub my brothers and I were treated to packets of Smiths crisps and bottles of Club Orange. On some ocassions we were allowed into the room at the rear of the bar and sat on what I can only describe as church pews – and not the least bit comfortable. I have mostly good memories of the pub, which was run by Bill and Queenie Jones and their son, Mike.”

The property is now a private house named Three Cocks.
