Martin Edwards, a fellow pub historian, has discovered some long-forgotten pubs that traded in early Victorian Cheltenham. His list of pubs in 1844 includes the Star & Garter which was then at 45 St. Georges Place. This was a beer house.

In Martin’s list of pubs there is also a beer house called the Original Shamrock at 44 St Georges Place, the Horse & Groom and the Clarence Hotel Tap. The St. Georges Vaults is not included.
