The Spread Eagle was on the north side of Bisley Old Road and was demolished in the 1960’s as part of a road widening scheme.
During the Second World War, American G.I.’s stationed at nearby Lypiatt Park would often drink the pub dry.
Bryan Durn, a traditional pub-sign writer, who began painting inn signs for the Stroud Brewery Company set up his workshops here in the early 1960’s.
