Gloucester Journal – 24th September 1881. A fatal fall. In July last we recorded the circumstances of an Accident which occurred to Mr William Poole of the Royal Oak Inn, Upton St Leonards. He was standing on the top of a wagon loaded with hay when the horses started on, causing him to fall to the ground in such a manner that his spine received severe injuries. The poor fellow has been prostrated at the infirmary ever since, until death put an end to his sufferings on Monday last.

There is no mention of the Royal Oak in the 1891 and 1903 Gloucestershire Licensing books.
