Manchester Walk is shown on an 1819 map and was part of Manchester Street. (now the western end of Clarence Street). Manchester Walk seems to have been a small alley, about three feet wide.

By 1878 the area seems to have been altered due to road widening. The location and history of the Railway Bell is uncertain. However, it might have been the tap house of the Railway Hotel, Ambrose Street.

There is also a reference to a Temperance Hotel in Manchester Walk.
