Gloucestershire Echo, Friday 27th December 1991 – Lorry driver buys pub: A lorry driver has decided to pull off the road for good – to run a pub. Robert Jones, the new landlord of The Plough Inn at Corse Lawn, near Staunton, bought the pub from Whitbread brewery’s property division. And he is now looking forward to his first Christmas behind the bar.
“I’ve never run a pub before. I bought it as an investment. But I’m looking forward to getting on with the job,” said the 48-year old former driver of heavy goods vehicles. Pulling pints with the new landlord, who has moved from his previous home in Eldersfield, will be his son Steven and the former tenant, Mrs Linda Miller.
One of the first things Mr Jones wants to do is initiate the return to the pub a skittles team. “There used to be a lot of skittle teams hereand that made the place a real community pub. I want to bring that atmosphere back,” he said. The pub will be redecorated in the New Year, and Mr Jones hopes more people will use the pub for functions.
