The Phoenix Inn closed on 3rd March 1922. The address of the Phoenix Inn is given as 22 Park Street in 1919 but the modern day numbers do not extend that high. The even side of the street runs from 6 to 14 (Post Code is GL7 2BN). It is known that number 20 Park Street became 11 Park Street on renumbering. The odd side of the street runs from 1-27 (GL7 2BX). The Phoenix must have been situated half way along the street.

PHOENIX, 9 Park Street
Originally called the “General Wolfe” in 1756 and on the 1800 (1) list. Presumably it may have been kept by an ex-soldier who had served under James Wolfe at some time in Scotland during the Jacobite troubles. By 1820 it was the “Phoenix Tavern” run by George Meddlecott. A fire that began next to the pub nearly destroyed it in 1878, but that was left to the licensing magistrates who decided to call time on the “Phoenix” and withdrew the license in 1922.
