Fellow pub and local history colleague Martin Edwards has done some research into Cheltenham pubs and has made a list of those pubs that were trading in early Victorian times – in the year 1844. He has listed a public house called the New Market which he lists in Back Street. This is now part of St Margarets Road / Swindon Road.

Perhaps the Black & White Coach Station was built over the site of the long closed, and probably demolished, old New Market Inn in the 1930’s . This, however, is complete conjecture.
