The nightclub opened in 1999.

Liquid is a new building behind the ornate brick façade of the old Victorian Gloucester Baths in Eastgate Street, next to the GL1 leisure centre.

The premises caught fire on Tuesday 20th April 2004, which caused the evacuation of the adjoining leisure centre. 40 firefighters fought to control the blaze which was brought under control. Despite the ferocity of the blaze only the roof was damaged and the nightclub was open for business two days after the fire.

On 14th April 2006 Liquid was re-launched as Liquid Diva after a £1.8 million refit. One of the key features was a 360 degree projection and video surround which is capable of displaying ‘total immersion’ music videos and visual effects to synchronise with the DJ’s beats. The upstairs area was known as Diva.
