Alan Jones has added, “although I can’t find any information on the Hop Pole earlier than 1844 and there is no telling how long it might have been in existence by then, I did find someone listed in Directories under “Beer Retailers” with a 4 Sherborne Place address. He was John Cooper and he appeared in the 1847 Hunt & Co. Directory and the 1848 Edwards Directory.”
