The Happy Pig opened as a pub in September 1988. It was previously the Black Stallion restaurant.


The Citizen: Saturday, August 24th, 1991: Roll up for the carrot throwing – Carrot crunching landlord Steve White is looking forward to hosting one of the world’s zaniest events at his Happy Pig pub. The World Carrot Throwing Championship were first held at the Dursley pub in 1988 and since then have grown in popularity. Strong men and women will come from far and wide on Monday to try and hurl a 25lb sack of carrots as far as humanly possible – the world record stands at just under 60 feet. The winner will win the coveted Championship Trophy – a  hand carved pig – and a £50 first prize.
