The 17th Century Half Way House was owned by Corpus Christi College of Oxford until it was purchased by the Donnington Brewery in 1975. The inn had previously been rented by the Donnington Brewery.

One of the nicest things about the Half Way House at Kineton is that it doesn’t feel like half way to anywhere. The 17th century inn sits on the side of a country lane off the B4077 near the summit if Stanway Hill and oozes tranquil rural charm. But a quick scan of the Ordnance Survey map shows that it is in fact more accessible than is at first thought. It is only three miles from Winchcombe, five from Stow-on-the-Wold and 12 from Cheltenham. The most acceptsble origin of the name is that it is half way between the villages of Guiting Power and Temple Guiting.

The Half Way House is one of the handful owned by Donnington’s Brewery at Stow-on-the-Wold. Yet this was a fairly recent acquisition as, until 1975, it was owned by Corpus Christi College of Oxford. The college dons may have moved out but the pub’s most famous resident stayed put – he’s the ghost of a highwayman said to haunt the building although he has been keeping something of a low profile of late.

Landlords Paul and Katie Hamer have acquired a solid reputation, not just for the excellence of Donnington’s ales, but also for their cooking as all the food served is homemade.
