Dog & Duck, Regent Street, Cheltenham
The 1996 edition of ‘Real Ale in Gloucestershire’, compiled by the Gloucestershire Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), gave the following details of the Dog & Duck. ‘Single bar opposite the Regent Arcade car park entrance. Upstairs pool room and lounge. Disco’s at weekends. Popular with students. Happy Hour 1900-2110. Archetypal 1980’s building, and interior pub design as seen by national breweries. Attached night club. Open evenings only.’ The beers on offer were John Smith’s Bitter, Marston’s Pedigree and Tetley Bitter.
Courage Brewery, then based in Bristol, provided the finances for the construction of the pub / night-club. The emphasis has always been on the clubbing scene and its days as trading as the Dog & Duck and a pub were short-lived. The premises became Enigma. Its current night-club incarnation is Moo Moo Clubrooms.
