A reference in 1863 lists J. Barber as a brewer in Berkeley although the public house is not specified. It seems probable, however, that the Bear Inn once brewed its own beer as J. Barber was landlord in that year. The premises is listed as the Wine & Spirit Vaults in Berkeley High Street in the 1919 and 1927 Kelly’s Directories. The property is now a private residence (52 High Street, GL13 9BJ). There is an iron bracket at first floor level, which probably once housed the hanging pub sign.
