An inn called the Crown & Sceptre was once the temporary quarters of the Gloucester Infirmary. The new hospital in Southgate Street opened in 1761 amid ‘great ceremony’.
There is a reference to a Crown & Sceptre in Lower Westgate in 1871. Could this be the same licensed premises as the Crown & Anchor as listed in the ‘West Ward’ of the City of Gloucester in 1822?
